Weymouth Township & Dorothy, New Jersey

Weymouth Township is a rural South Jersey community of forests, farms, river corridors and small settlements. Dorothy is the township's principal census-designated community and mailing center, while Belcoville occupies the eastern side near Route 50 and the Great Egg Harbor River.

NJTGO keeps Dorothy and Weymouth Township together in one page set because Dorothy is part of the township rather than a separate municipality.

Weymouth Township at a glance

The township sits in southwestern Atlantic County where the New Jersey Pinelands meet the Great Egg Harbor, South and Tuckahoe river systems. Its low-density landscape, wooded roads and scattered homes are very different from the county's shore and casino communities.

Dorothy

The township's largest named community and ZIP-code center, home to Township Hall, Weymouth Township School, the Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company, local businesses and the Tuckahoe Road commercial cluster.

Belcoville

An eastern township community near Route 50 and the Great Egg Harbor River. Some businesses here use a Mays Landing mailing address even though the property is physically in Weymouth Township.

Rural Weymouth

Outside the compact Dorothy street grid, the township opens into wooded lots, farms, wetlands, river corridors and protected Pinelands landscape.

Pinelands & river country

Most of Weymouth Township lies inside the Pinelands management area. Water and open space shape the community: the Great Egg Harbor River forms a major eastern boundary, the South River runs through the township, and the Tuckahoe River corridor influences the southern landscape.

Great Egg Harbor Wildlife Management Area

State-managed natural land along the Great Egg Harbor and South rivers supports fishing, hunting, hiking and paddling access in the wider township area.

Tuckahoe & South River greenways

The township's planning documents identify these river corridors as important long-term open-space and greenway resources.

Pinelands development

Land use, septic capacity, wetlands and Pinelands rules matter for property owners and businesses because much of the township remains environmentally regulated and low density.

Community life

Weymouth Township School

The township's single public school serves students in pre-kindergarten through grade 8 at 1202 Eleventh Avenue in Dorothy. High-school students attend Buena Regional High School through a sending/receiving relationship.

Municipal recreation field

The recreation complex at 45 South Jersey Avenue serves local families and is the focus of continuing accessibility and playground improvements.

Dorothy Volunteer Fire & Rescue

A long-standing community institution providing local emergency response and civic involvement.

Historic identity

Weymouth's roots reach back to early South Jersey settlement. The township preserves a rural identity even as it connects to Mays Landing, Buena, Vineland and the shore region.

Municipal, school, business and community information was reviewed in September 2026. Postal labels do not always match municipal boundaries; NJTGO uses the physical municipality when that distinction matters.
